FUNCTION, FOOD SOURCES & DEFICIENCY OF CALCIUM

Function: Part of many enzymes; needed for making protein and genetic material; has a function in taste perception, wound healing, normal fetal development, production of sperm, normal growth and sexual maturation and immune system health.

Food sources: Meats, fish, poultry, leavened whole grains, vegetables and dark chocolate.

Deficiency: Retarded growth and development, hair loss, diarrhoea, impotence, eye and skin disorders, loss of appetite, delayed wound healing and taste change.
